Duke Ellington Boulevard
Screened at the IFP market as a work in progress
October 2nd at the Angelica Film Center Theater 1

Meet the amazing number of jazz musicians who still call this widely diverse "melting pot" of a neighborhood home. Celebrate this uniquely American music and its history. A neighborhood once ravaged by drugs and crime, now the neighborhood battles encroaching gentrification which threatens to wipe out the flavor of this unique enclave on the Upper West Side.

Featured musicians:

James Carter -- World renowned saxophonist
Felicia Collins -- Guitarist for the David Letterman band, Al Jarreau, Cyndi Lauper etc.
Paul Motian -- Band leader and drummer with Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, Mose Allison, Arlo Guthrie, Monk and more . . .
Charli Persip -- Band Leader and drummer with Dizzy Gillespie's Big Band and Quintet plus Billy Eckstine and co-founder of the Jazz Statesmen . . .
Barry Altschul -- Drummer with Chick Corea, Paul Bley, Sam Rivers, etc.

We will explore why Duke Ellington, Billie Holliday, Max Roach, Elvin Jones, George Gershwin, James Carter, Art Blakey, and so many more have been drawn to this neighborhood, while composing seminal works of Jazz . . .
